Is this the father of Rhoda Van Cleve Swisher? She is linked to two William Van Cleves.

Hi Wilma - You are correct. This William Van Cleve (Van_Cleve-44) is NOT the father of Rhoda (Van Cleve) Swisher (Van_Cleve-57). The correct father is William Van Cleve (Van_Cleve-167). I have made the correction. Please see Rhoda (Van Cleve) Swisher (1783-1851).

I believe the confusion is that the birth date for both William's is very similar (aside from the same name for two different individuals), however, Rhoda's father was born in Middlesex Co, while this William was born in Monmouth Co.

I've done the detach. Deborah Smith's husband Wm V-C was born 25 August 1737, he is DAR patriot A117472

Comparing Van Cleve-167 and Van Cleve-44, both married (apparently) the same Deborah Smith. However, these two Van Cleves look like different people.
posted by Joel Bridgham
This William could not be the husband of Deborah Smith as he would have only been 10 years old in 1762 when William & Deborah were married.

Smith-174295 & Smith-212817 appear to be the same person and should be merged.
